Rank: Private First Class. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps January 15, 1943 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, completing basic training with the Seventh Recruit Battalion Recruit Depot; Marine Barracks Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon his graduation from Boot Camp, he was transferred to Camp Geiger, North Carolina for combat training. Following infantry training, he served as a Rifleman with Echo Company, Second Battalion, Twenty-Fifth Marine Regiment, a subordinate unit of the Fourth Marine Division Location: Northwestern Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the amphibious assault on Saipan Island, (Battle Dates: June 15-July 9, 1944) Mariana Islands. Friday, June 16, 1944 he was mortally wounded, during combat operations against the Imperial Japanese forces, with burial in the Saipan Fourth Marine Division battlefield cemetery. His name has been etched on one of the Twenty-Sixth granite plates, located in the court of Honor, American Memorial on Saipan. In the post-war era, his family requested that he be buried with Military Honors at Honolulu Memorial Cemetery Location: Honolulu, Hawaii, with interment February 11, 1949. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
