He was inducted into the U.S. Army on October 6, 1943. Attached to the Medical Corps, he received his basic training at the Lawson General Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. With the Post Dispensary in the Signal Corps Area he saw action in Honolulu, Hawaii. he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. After eighteen months overseas, he was discharged on March 1, 1946 in Hawaii.
