Rank: Private First Class. Inducted into the United States Army December 23, 1942 at Indianapolis, Indiana, completing recruit training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia. Upon his graduation from boot camp, he was transferred to Fort Hood, Georgia for advanced combat training. He served as a Rifleman with the Thirty-Second Infantry Regiment, Seventh Infantry ‘Hourglass’ Division, attached to the U.S. Sixth Army Location: Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the Battle of Leyte Island, Philippines (Battle Dates: October 17–December 26, 1944) Code Name: King Two. Monday, October 23, 1944 he was mortally wounded, during combat operations against the Imperial Japanese forces, with burial in the United States Armed Forces Cemetery, Leyte #1 Philippine Islands. In the post-war era, this Soldier’s family requested that he be buried with Military Honors at Manila American Cemetery Location: Fort Bonifacio, Manila, Philippine Islands. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his Heroism and ultimate sacrifice.
