Rank: Private First Class. Inducted into the United States Army February 18, 1942 at Camp Blanding, Florida. Following his recruit and advanced infantry training, he was deployed to the European Theater of Operations. He served as a Rifleman with the 137th Infantry Regiment, Thirty-Fifth Infantry AKA: Santa Fe Division, attached to the U.S. Third Army. His division participated in the Normandy Battle, the invasion of Germany’s Fortress Europe, D-Day, June 6, 1944, going ashore on Omaha Beach, France. Saturday, August 12, 1944 he was killed in Action, during the capture and occupation of the Luftwaffe airfield at Le Mans, France, with burial in the Saint Pilarie battlefield cemetery Garron, France. In the post-war era, this Soldiers’ family requested that he be buried with Military Honors at Brittany American Cemetery Location: Saint James (Manche), France. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his Heroism and ultimately sacrifice.
