He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a Motor Machinist's Mate, Second Class on a Higgins boat. Among his naval assignments, he was stationed in Guam, near the end of the war, readying for a land invasion of Japan’s main island. He was discharged on May 25, 1946. Received the WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
