He was in the 232nd Regiment, 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division. His Division was part of the American force that stopped Germany's last Offensive called Operation Nordwind. For this victory his regiment was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation. Individually, he was awarded the Bronze Star and the French Croix De Guerre, for his actions while in combat.
