Served in the Pacific theater of operations as a pilot aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington. while flying his Wildcat fighter, he took on 5 Mitsubishi 'Betty Bombers', and he downed them in 4 minutes. Recipient of the Medal of Honor presented to him by President Roosevelt.
