Served in the Pacific theater of operations in Saipan with the 4th battalion, 10th Marine regiment, 2nd Marine division as a Private First Class. he single handedly saved 45 of his comrades that had been wounded. on his last attempt to save two more he was shot by a sniper and Killed in Action. Recipient of The Medal of Honor, Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific campaign and a presidential unit citation with the letter V.
