On his 20th birthday, he was drafted into the U.S. Army becoming an American citizen at Camp Hood, Texas. He fought as a member of the Headquarters Battery of the 87th Division Artillery with the rank of Staff Sergeant of Supplies. He participated in combat operations in France, Battle of the Bulge (Belgium), Luxembourg and Germany. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and American Campaign Medal.
