Served in the European theater of operations in Italy as a first sergeant in headquarters company, 1st battalion, 504th parachute infantry Regiment, 82nd airborne division. He jumped into Salerno, Italy was wounded in combat along the Mussolini canal at Anzio beachhead December 31, 1944 by a German mortar shell. recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals.
