Served in the European theater of operations with the 9th division among the first troops to cross the Rhine River on the damaged railroad bridge at Remagen, Germany. wounded two weeks later recipient of a Purple Heart. One of the lighter moments in the war after crossing the bridge late at night and being so tired he found a cottage with troops sleeping so he laid down and woke at daybreak only to realize the sleeping troops were dead German soldiers.
