He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on December 29, 1941. Served in 428th Bombardment Squadron, 310th Bombing Group as an aerial gunner on a B-25. He was a staff sergeant and was stationed in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. He was killed in action on January 22, 1943, when on a mission to bomb the airport, El Aouina, in North Africa. He caught a piece of flak on the return trip being the first 428th man killed in action over enemy territory. He posthumously received the Purple Heart and the Air Medal for participation in five raids against the enemy.
