Rank: Private First Class. Inducted into the United States Army May 7, 1943 at Fort McPherson Atlanta, Georgia. Following recruit and advanced infantry training, he was deployed to the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. He served as a Rifleman with the 179th Infantry Regiment, an element of the Forty-Fifth Infantry ‘Thunderbird’ Division. Saturday, February 19, 1944 he was mortally wounded, while participating in the invasion of Anzio, Italy against the German armed forces. Personnel from a Grave Registration Company buried him in the Nettuno Battlefield Cemetery Nettuno, Italy. In the post-war era, this Soldiers’ family requested that he be buried with Military Honors at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery Location: Nettuno, Italy. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his Heroism and ultimate sacrifice.
