Served in the European theater of operations in France as a Captain with the 45th infantry division 'Thunderbirds'. He was captured by the Germans and he convinced the the German officer in charge to surrender (which he did) 942 troops and 17 officers. Recipient of the Silver Star (2), Bronze Star and 2 Purple Heart medals. He was killed in Action.
