Pearl Thomas
At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Clamour (AM-160) rating as a Quartermaster and held the rank of Seaman 1st Class. The Clamour saw action throughout the Pacific Theater of operations, notably Eniwetok and Kwajalein. He photographed his shipmates aboard the Clamour and made the only photographic record of a minesweeper during that time. Although he did not know it, this was against military regulations. The Commander of the Clamour impounded the camera and film for the duration of the war. He retrieved the camera and film on his last day aboard ship.
