On January 23, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became an electrician as he was in civilian life. he was with the minesweeper USS YMS-111, in the Atlantic in late 1942 and was on the Pacific high seas on V-J Day. He received his honorable discharge at Lido Beach on August 31, 1945.
