He was called to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps on May 12, 1942. He was inducted at Camp Upton, New York and later transferred to New Orleans, Louisiana where he took advanced training. On October 8th, 1943, he left for overseas service in the European Theatre of Operations. His special work was that as Armorer. He served in England, France and Germany for 22 months. On August 5, 1945, he returned to the United States. He was awarded the following medals: Six Campaign Stars for for Campaigns of Normandy, Ardennes, Northern France, central Europe, Rhineland: a Presidential Citation with two bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Good Conduct Ribbon. he went overseas with the 358th Fighter Group, 365th Fighter Squadron, and returned with them. He was discharged on September 16, 1945 at the Fort Dix, New Jersey Separation Center. Air Offensive of Europe.
