Activity During WWII

He was originally inducted on February 17, 1941. He received his basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was assigned to Company F, 4th Medical Battalion. On May 1, 1941, he was transferred to the 29th infantry medical Detachment. he had received the rating of Acting Corporal by the time of his first discharge on September 26, 1941, when he reached the then existing age limit. On January 20, 1942, he was recalled to the Army and was appointed Corporal and stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina with the 29th Infantry as a medic. From Camp Miles Standish he left for overseas duty in Iceland, Scotland, England and France. Due to an illness as a result of his war activities he was returned to the United States. He was stationed at Camp Edwards, Massachusetts and then transferred to Oliver General Hospital, Augusta, Georgia, where he received his medical discharge on February 22, 1945.
