Basic Training: Great Lakes Naval Training Center; Aviation Cadet Training (V5): Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (New York), Pensacola Naval Air Base (Florida). WWII ended before completing training. The Navy had enough pilots already so the Trainees had the option to be discharged or go into the Reserves and wait to be called back to complete training where they had left off. He chose the Reserves and returned to college at Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana).
