He was killed in action March 3,1945 on IWO JIMA. He distinguished himself on February 23, 1945 as he was one of four riflemen that were assigned to guard Hershel W. Williams as he advanced a hillside full of pillboxes that were stopping their Company’s advance. After four hours of intense battle they moved up the hill. Three day later he was killed in action.
