Rank: Storekeeper Second Class. Inducted into the United States Navy March 9, 1939 with induction at San Francisco, California, and recruit training at the U.S. Naval Training Station San Diego, California. Upon his graduation from boot camp and Storekeeper Training, he was transferred to the USS Canopus Submarine Tender (AS-9) for duty, with the responsibility of ordering, stocking, and general supplies. Assigned to Submarine Squadron-20 Location: Cavite Navy Yard, Manila Bay, Philippine Islands. The Submarine Tender was severely damaged by Imperial Japanese Bombers, during the Invasion of the Philippine Islands. Thursday, April 9, 1942, she was scuttled by her crew in the deep waters of Mariveles Bay. Wednesday, May 6, 1942 he was reported missing in action or buried at sea. In remembrance of the brave, his name is permanently inscribed in the tablets of the missing, memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Location: Fort Bonifacio, Manila, Philippine Islands. This American Patriot received the Purple Heart posthumously, for his Heroism and ultimate sacrifice.
