As a Private, he was in the Signal Corps stationed at Wheeler Field on December 7, 1941. (Pearl Harbor Survivor). From there in 1942, he went to Officer Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and afterward, went to Engineer Training in Ponton Bridge Building. In 1943, he was sent to Europe. In late June of 1944, he landed on Utah Beach in Normandy and was assigned as a quartermaster with the Red Bull Express. He and his platoon built many Ponton Bridges in and around Germany. He was also at the Battle of the Bulge.
