Rank: Private First Class. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps from Ohio, completing basic training with the Fourth Recruit Battalion Recruit Depot; Marine Barracks Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon his graduation from Boot Camp, he was transferred to Camp Geiger, North Carolina for combat training. Following infantry training, he served as a Rifleman with the First Platoon, assigned to Kilo Company, Third Battalion, Fifth Marine Regiment, an element of the First Marine Division Location: Northwest Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the Battle of Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands (Battle Dates: Easter Sunday, April 1–June 22, 1945) Code Name: Operation Iceberg. Monday, May 7, 1945 he was killed in action, during combat operations against the Imperial Japanese forces, with burial in the First Marine Division Okinawa Battlefield Cemetery. In the post-war era, this Marines’ family requested that he be buried with Military Honors at the Evergreen Cemetery Paris, Ohio. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his Heroism and ultimate sacrifice.
