Rank: Private. Inducted into the United States Army September 6, 1944 with induction at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Following his infantry training, he was deployed to the European Theater of Operations. He served as a Rifleman with the 143rd Infantry Regiment, an element of the Thirty-Sixth Infantry ‘Arrowhead’ Division, attached to the U.S. Seventh Army. Friday, March 16, 1945 he was killed in action, during a combat engagement with the German armed forces. The division, also known as the ‘Lone Star’ was in the process of crossing the Moselle River at Remiremont, France. Personnel from a Grave Registration Company buried him in the Saint Avold Battlefield Cemetery, Metz, France. In the post-war era, this Soldiers’ family requested that he be buried with Military Honors at the Lorraine American Cemetery Location: St. Avold (Moselle), France. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his Heroism and ultimate sacrifice.
