Activity During WWII

Entered the Army on December 27, 1943. He became a member of the Fourth Engineer Special Brigade. He was assigned to the 3017th Engineer Maintenance Company, which was attached to and in support of the 544th Engineer Boat Company and Shore Regiment. He was trained for large scale maneuvers with units of the Second army and was given extensive training in amphibious and ground warfare. He left for duty on the U.S.S. Matsonia and arrived at Oro Bay, New Guinea on July 1, 1944. During the war, his unit was repeatedly bombed and strafed by enemy places while completing the mission of small craft maintenance and ground troop support. At Navotas, his unit built a marine railway. He was promoted to Technician Third Grade on January 15, 1944 and merited the following awards: Good Conduct medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, New Guinea Campaign-Bronze Star, Luzon Campaign-Bronze Star Philippine Liberation Ribbon- Bronze Star, Northern Solomons Campaign-Bronze Star, and the World War lI Victory Medal At the time of surrender, his company moved with occupational forces and landed with the first troops ashore at Wakayama, Honshu, Japan on September 15, 1946.
