Proudly served his country in WWII as a U.S. Army Corporal Infantryman from 1943 to 1945. As part of Operation Anvil, he saw intense combat with the Germans in Southern France and the Colmar region. During this period he was captured by the Germans and held as a prisoner of war for several months. For his service he received the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Bronze Star.
