Drafted in the United States Army when he turned 18 years of age. He was allowed to finish his high school studies and get his diploma but he was not allowed to wait and attend his high school graduation ceremony with his classmates. He was assigned to the Army Signal Corps and sent immediately to Germany to join the occupation forces. He served his country admirably.
