He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps 552nd Fighter Squadron in December 1942, which supported several locations (England, France, Belgium, Germany) in the European Theater of Operations. This fighter-bomber squadron performed missions designed to disrupt the enemy's communications system and to isolate the battlefield for the coming invasion. He was discharged on Veteran's Day, November 1945.
