Served as crew chief on a C-47 troop carrier in the 442nd Operations Group in the European Theater of Operations. He participated in Operation Overlord with the Normandy D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, Operation Dragoon in France, Operation Market Garden in Holland, Operation Plunder at the Rhine River, and the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp. Crews and his unit earned six battle stars and a Presidential Unit Citation.
