Rank: Sergeant. Inducted into the United States Army May 23, 1940 with induction at Avon, Kentucky. After completing the required phases of his recruit and Medical Schooling, he was deployed to the Philippine Islands. He served as a Medical Technician, assigned to the Sternberg Second General Hospital in Manila. Wednesday, May 6, 1942 he was captured, when Manila was seized by the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces. The enemy transferred him to the City of Puerto Princesa, Palawan Island, with incarceration at the Prisoner of War Camp. The Palawan Massacre took his life December 14, 1944, with burial in the Prisoner cemetery. In the post-war era, this Soldiers’ family requested that he be buried with Military Honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, with interment February 14, 1952 in Lemay, Missouri. In his Memory and Honor, this American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his Heroism and ultimate sacrifice.
