Served with the 101st Screaming Eagles in Germany and Belgium and was in the latter part of Operation Market Garden in Holland. He was pinned down as were many others in Battle of Bulge when many others did not show up at their reconnoiter spot. He finally arrived after they gave him up for dead. After being wounded, received shrapnel in his leg, purple heart and bronze star he was assigned to the glider outfit arriving in Holland.
