Army Intelligence officer. One of his early assignments, based on his linguistic skill, was to provide instruction in Russian language and affairs. He was fluent in French, German, Italian and Spanish, as well as Russian, and traveled widely as a military intelligence officer). He remained on active duty until 1946, leaving with the rank of Major.
