Joined Army in May, 1941. Assigned to C Company of the 629th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Served in five campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic conduct in February, 1945. Received a Purple Heart after being wounded in April, 1945. He also received the EAME Service Medal, the American Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He left the service in September, 1945.
