Activity During WWII

He enlisted on 23 October 1942. Lt Anderson was a B-25 Mitchell pilot. He served with the crack 321st Bomb Group of the 12th Air Force. The 321st Bomb Group had set a world record for bombing accuracy by placing 9 of 10 bombs in the target area on 98 missions flown during September, October, and November 1943. He flew more than 50 missions over Northern Italy and Austria. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement in "flying a tactical bomber mission in support of the British Eighth Army during the jump-off of it's final offensive which paved the way for chasing the Germans out of Italy." He was also awarded the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters and the Presidential Unit Citation with Cluster. He was killed near Goldsboro NC in an automobile accident while returning to Seymour Johnson air base.
