He enlisted in the US ARMY at Camp Blanding FL on 24 June 1943, he was inducted on 8 July 43 at Camp Blanding. Prior to his enlistment he contributed to the war effort, serving as a welder in the defense industry at the Alabama Dry Docks and Shipbuilding Company. After induction he trained at Camp Hahn, California and Camp Howze, Texas. He was a Private First Class (PFC) and served with the 7th Armored Infantry Division, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion. He left for Europe in early August 1944, landing in France later in 1944. He and his unit fought their way through France and Belgium and into the Netherlands. He died fighting for the liberation of Ospel in the vicinity of Winnerstraat, Netherlands. He was wounded on 3 November 1944 and later died of those wounds. His name is on a monument at Ospel, Netherlands along with the names of the men who were killed in the Ospel area, most of them in this first week of November 1944. Originally interred in Europe, his remains were returned to his hometown and he was buried on 20 November 1947 in Oakland Cemetery, Tallahassee FL. The headstone and the application for a headstone indicate that his date of death was 3 November 1944. 7th Division records indicate that he was wounded on 3 Nov and died on 4 November.
