He entered the Army at Fort Douglas, Utah on December 28, 1944, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. He served in both the 77th Infantry Division and headquarters of the 11th Airborne Division during the occupation of Japan. He returned to the States in late 1946 and was honorably discharged at Fort Lewis, Washington on October 27, 1946. His awards and decorations include the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Japan), and Philippine Liberation Medal. Badges awarded include the Expert Infantryman Badge and Expert Marksmanship Badge, (M1 Rifle).
