Activity During WWII

He was a fighter pilot. Served with the 7th Air Force, 46th Fighter Squadron. He served in the Central Pacific, Western Pacific, Eastern Mandates and Air Offensive Japan campaigns. He flew missions over Haha-Jima, Tokyo and Honshu Atsugi. He received the Purple Heart for being wounded in a banzai attack on the island of Iwo Jima on March 26, 1945. Other awards he received were the American Defense Ribbon, Air Medal with one cluster, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, five Overseas Bars and the Distinguished Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps in 1945 and served in the Air Force Reserve until 1955.
