Activity During WWII

In 1944 Lieutenant Colonel Dyess became the commander of the 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division during the Gilbert and Marshall Islands Campaign. He was KIA during the Battle of Kwajalein, receiving the Medal of Honor posthumously for his heroic actions.
