He enlisted in the Army on 11 October 1940, Assigned to 2nd Infantry, Fort Custer, Michigan and Trained in infantry and radio operations. On 1 May 1941 was Shipped to Iceland and Promoted to Sergeant during his time there. On 6 August 1943 was Shipped to England for training, on 20 October 1943 was Shipped to Northern Ireland for training, and on 6 July 1944 Landed on Utah Beach, Normandy and entered battle campaigns. He was wounded on 12 December 1944 near Metz and was sent to Paris for light duty. On 19 June 1945 was Honorably Discharged at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Battles and Campaigns; Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland. Was awarded; Purple Heart, American Defense Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars and 7 Overseas Service Bars.
