He served with the 88th (blue devils) Division, 349th infantry. He was a heavy machine gunner. He earned the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign ribbon with three campaign stars (Rome-Arno, Appenines, Po Valley). He earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart with 2 oak leaf clusters (for wounds received on May 21, 1944, October 5, 1944, and April 16 1945). He also received a silver star on October 5, 1944 near Belvedere, Italy.
