He entered active service in 1941 as a Field Artillery First Lieutenant. Served with the 16th Tank Destroyer Group in Europe. In 1946 commanded the 13th and 16th Constabulary Squadrons on the U.S.- Soviet Zone border. Advanced to Major General in service.
