He joined the US Army in May 1944. He served as a Private First Class with the 253rd Infantry Regiment, “H” Company, 63rd Infantry Division. On April 5, 1945, “H” Company came under fire from these positions. He lost his life that day. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon, Presidential Citation, ETO Ribbon with two battle stars, Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star Medal posthumously.
