He was killed on December 7, 1941 onboard the USS Oklahoma, when it was attacked by Japanese aircraft. His remains were exhumed in 2015. They were identified by dental and DNA analysis. He will be buried on June 6, 2022 at the "Punchbowl" National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii.
