Activity During WWII

He was drafted into the army on March 13, 1941. He served as a sergeant in “M” Company, 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division. On July 29, the 117th Infantry Regiment, together with a tank battalion and a company of a chemical battalion, attacked enemy positions in the vicinity of La Gonnivière, but failed to advance in the face of strong opposition. He was wounded in action the same day and died of his wounds later that day. He is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
