He served in the US Army during World War II. He was with the 36th Infantry Division 142nd Infantry Regiment Company G (The T-Patchers). He landed with his Division in Italy September 1943 at Salerno (Operation Avalanche). On November 29th 1943 he was wounded by an artillery shell and returned to his unit in January 1944. On January 30, 1944 he was KIA at the start of the Battle of Cassino in Italy. For his heroic actions on that day he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and another purple heart. His body was returned to his family in 1949 and was laid to rest at the Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles California.
