He was 18 when he enlisted in the US Navy and became a coxswain. On September 1940, he reported to duty aboard the USS Arizona. On December 7, 1941, he had taken a load of crew members to shore and was eating breakfast on the ship when the Japanese attack started. The Arizona was torn in half and he was thrown overboard and made it to Ford Island. Awarded the Navy Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. After his death on September 27, 2016, his remains were interred on April 15, 2017 in the barbette in gun turret four in the submerged Arizona at Pearl Harbor.
