He served in the European Theater of Operations with the 44th Infantry Division which saw 190 days of combat in in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater specifically in campaigns of NORTHERN FRANCE, RHINELAND, and CENTRAL EUROPE. He was a BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle) infantryman in Co K, 71st Inf, 44th Inf Division. Due to his wounds he returned to the US aboard the Queen Mary. He was awarded a Purple Heart, WWII Victory and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medals.
