Activity During WWII

He was part of a 12-member crew in a B-24 Liberator ("The Bold Sea Rover") assigned to the 861st Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bombardment Group. He was the nose gunner in the lead plane on a mission to bomb a German air base in Roye-Amy, France, when his plane was shot down over Assainvillers on 18 August 1944. There were no survivors. He is buried/memorialized at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Lemay, Missouri.
