Activity During WWII

Rank: Lieutenant Commander. He served aboard the USS Jarvis Destroyer II (DD-393) as the Executive Officer. August 7, 1942 the Destroyer and her shipmates, along with an armada of U.S. Warships Rendezvous’ off-shore of Guadalcanal in support of the impending invasion. Sunday, August 9, 1942 he was reported Missing-in-Action or buried at sea, when the Destroyer was torpedoed; by an Imperial Japanese Bomber. The USS Jarvis went down with all hands; off-shore of Tulagi Island Location: Southwestern Pacific Theater of Operations. In remembrance of the brave, his name is permanently inscribed in the tablets of the missing, memorialized at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Location: Fort Bonifacio, Manila, Philippines. In his Memory and Honor, a cenotaph memorial has been placed at the Fleming County Cemetery, located at Flemingsburg, Kentucky. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously for his Heroism, and ultimate sacrifice. He served his Country with Pride and Honor.
