Sergeant in the VII Corps U.S. Army. He landed on Normandy on D-Day. He was awarded the Bronze Arrowhead for being with one of the first spearhead units to land on Normandy. He was awarded five Battle Stars for participation in major campaigns, including The Battle of the Bulge. He was also awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and the Bronze Star medal. He carried the American flag in several victory ceremonies, including those at Cherbourg, St. Lo, Reims, Liege, Aachen and Cologne.
